I know most of us loves laksa- whether you're Chinese or Malay, Indian or even foreigner. Laksa is among Malaysia's signature food. Its simple and yummy. I think Malaysia is the only country with a variety of laksa to choose from. Different states have their very own definition of laksa. Laksa is a kind of noodles served with gravy-
Types of Laksa:
1. Laksa Penang- originated from Penang serves with shredded pineapples and mints leaves
2. Laksa Kedah- originated from Kedah; the authentic laksa Kedah will be served with sambal nyiok (coconut)
3. Laksa Kuala Perlis- the gravy made of eel instead of fish
4. Laksa Lemak- famous among Pattanis- famous among those who have ancestors from Thailand (my grandparents loved this kind of laksa; they not really prefer Laksa Kedah/ Assam Laksa, made of fish ang use fish curry paste)
5. Laksa Terengganu- the gravy made of fish and coconut milk, but they will served with belacan, chili paste and salt)
6. Laksa Nyonya- have 2 varieties- one is Assam Laksa; made from Sardines and another one with coconut gravvy, usually they will use vermicelli instead oh laksa noodles
7. Laksam- Kelantanese style of laksa, but the noodle is different served with coconut gravy with fish, black pepper, beansprout, long beans, ginger flower and sambal belacan.
8. Laksa Sarawak- thick gravy with different taste, chocolatey in colour
9. Laksa Johor- use spagetti as its noodles and the gravy mix of chocolatey and redly coloured as it use chilli paste and curry spice, served with long beans, daun kesum, ginger flower, sliced onions etc.
So, what I would like to show off is- Laksa Kedah. The authentic laksa Kedah can be found only in Jalan Kuala Kedah, specifically in the Telok Kechai area (if from Alor Setar, its on the right side of the road just after Jabatan Pertanian Telok Kechai) there's a lot of people stop by the restaurant; u can take away or eat in. Its famous name is Laksa Telok Kechai. If u eager to know the taste, just give ur self a try. memang sedap. The noodles and gravy are all homemade. What makes it different from other is the Sambal Nyiok (sambal Kelapa). Hmmmm soooooo yummylicious. If u wish to go to Langkawi using Kuala Kedah Jetty then u will passby the restaurants- Kedai Laksa Pak Din and another one is Kedai Laksa Zakaria (they're just side by side) Please give urself a try...
